Under the close supervision of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory), the Environmental Scientist (ES) analyzes product chemistry and environmental fate data for a complex and environmentally sensitive statewide pesticide registration program that protects the State’s natural resources and public health. The ES applies scientific methods and principles to identify environmental hazards and risk mitigation strategies and develops regulatory and policy recommendations for the evaluation of pesticides in California.

The ES prepares clear, complete and technically accurate evaluation reports, consistent with the program’s functional equivalency status under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). In addition, the ES reviews and evaluates testing procedures and protocols submitted by registrants, meets with customers or other stakeholders to discuss and resolve specific issues concerning data requirements or other registration actions, and provides scientific expertise to departmental staff on registration and regulatory issues related to pesticide products.
